Accessibility
This site should work for everyone. If it does not work for you, tell us and we will fix it.
Our commitment
A roof is not a niche purchase. Anyone who owns a home on Long Island might need one, which means this website has to work for anyone — including people who browse with a keyboard, a screen reader, a magnifier, or with motion turned off. We treat that as part of building the site properly, not as an add-on.
What we have built in
These are specific things in this site rather than general intentions:
- Keyboard navigation. Every menu, link, form field, and control can be reached and operated with the keyboard alone. The dropdown menu opens without a mouse.
- Visible focus. Whatever you are focused on is outlined clearly, including on dark backgrounds, so you never lose your place.
- A skip link. The first thing a keyboard reaches on any page is a link that jumps past the navigation straight to the content.
- Real text, not pictures of text. Everything can be read by a screen reader, resized, or restyled by your own browser settings.
- Descriptive alt text on photographs that carry meaning, and no alt clutter on decoration.
- Colour contrast checked against WCAG AA for body text and interface elements.
- Reduced motion. If your system asks for less motion, our animations turn off. Nothing moves that you did not ask for.
- Structure that makes sense. Proper headings in order, real landmarks, labelled form fields, and tables with headers — so a screen reader can navigate the page rather than read it as a wall.
- No JavaScript required. The site is built to work without it, which removes a whole category of accessibility failure.
Where we know we fall short
We would rather name the gaps than claim perfection:
- Our estimate form opens a message in your own email program. If your setup does not have one configured, that form will not work for you — please call or email us instead, and we will take your details that way.
- Some of our material comparison tables are wide and scroll sideways on a phone.
- We have not published a formal third-party audit. Our conformance claim is based on our own testing.
Tell us when something is broken
This is the part that matters. If any page, control, or document on this site gets in your way, we want to hear about it — we would rather know than not.
- Call: (631) 767-0707
- Email: [email protected]
- Write: Cape Construction, 1214 Waverly Ave, Holtsville, NY 11742
Tell us what page you were on and what went wrong, in whatever words work for you. We aim to reply within two business days, and we will tell you what we are going to do about it and when.
Getting an estimate another way
If any part of this website is a barrier, it should never cost you the ability to hire us. Call us and we will do the whole thing — questions, inspection, written estimate — by phone, by email, or in person at your kitchen table.
