FAQ

Straight answers, before you call.

The questions Long Island homeowners ask us most — about estimates, pricing, licensing, and how a job actually runs. If yours is not here, call (631) 767-0707.

Estimates & getting started

Are your estimates really free?

Yes — the inspection, the photos, and the written estimate cost you nothing, and there is no obligation to hire us. We get up on the roof and into the attic, show you pictures of what we actually found, and send a firm written price within 48 hours. If the roof has years left in it, we will tell you that too.

How soon can you come out, and do I need to be home?

We usually get to a Long Island home within a few days of your call, sooner for an active leak. You do not need to be home for the exterior and roof inspection, but it helps to have someone there if we need attic access — that is where ice-dam and ventilation problems show up. We call before we come and again before we send the estimate.

What if I have an active leak or storm damage right now?

Call us at (631) 767-0707. We can get out quickly to assess it and, when it is needed, tarp the roof to stop the water before more damage is done. The assessment is free, and we will not push a full replacement if a targeted repair is what the roof actually needs.

The company

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Cape Construction is a licensed home-improvement contractor in Nassau and Suffolk County, and we carry general liability and workers’ compensation coverage. We attach our license number and current insurance certificates to every estimate, before you ask. If a contractor hesitates when you ask for those, that is your answer.

Do you use subcontractors or day labor?

Most of the work is done by our own crews, in our own shirts, and the foreman who walked your roof during the estimate is the one running the job. When a job calls for a specialized trade we do not keep in-house, we bring in a vetted subcontractor we have worked with before — and we stay responsible for the result either way. You are never handed off to strangers, and the person who quoted the job is the one accountable for it.

What areas do you serve?

Nassau and Suffolk County, Long Island — and nowhere else. From the Nassau line out to the Hamptons: Massapequa, Levittown, Hicksville, Huntington, Babylon, Islip, Smithtown, Patchogue, Riverhead and everywhere between. Working one island is what lets us show up fast and stand behind the work.

What services do you offer?

Roofing, flat roofing, siding, chimney work, gutters, decking and masonry — the full exterior of your home under one contractor. Doing more than one trade at once means the seams between them, like the flashing where the roof meets the wall, are one company’s responsibility rather than a finger-pointing match. See our services for details.

Pricing, warranty & insurance

How do you price a job, and is the price fixed?

Every estimate is itemized — materials, tear-off, disposal, permits — so you can see exactly what you are paying for. If we find rotted decking once the old roof is off, you already have a fixed per-sheet price for it in writing, so there are no surprises mid-job. What you sign is what you pay.

Do you require a deposit?

A deposit covers ordering your materials, with the balance due when the job passes your final walkthrough — not before. We go over the schedule and terms in plain language before anything is signed, and it is all in the written contract, never a verbal promise.

What warranty comes with the work?

The manufacturer warrants the materials themselves — typically 30 to 50 years on architectural shingles, with different terms on metal, cedar, siding and membrane products. The exact coverage depends on the product you choose, so we walk through your specific warranty with you before you sign and hand you the paperwork at the end.

Will you work with my insurance company on storm damage?

Yes, and we do it regularly after nor’easters and coastal wind events. We document the damage with dated photos, write the scope in the format adjusters expect, and can meet your adjuster on the roof. We will also be honest with you: if what we are seeing is years of normal wear rather than storm damage, we will say so rather than steer you into a claim that gets denied.
